Day 23: 23rd April 2015 NAPOWRIMO

If only I could sleep at night

I would dream a thousand dreams, enveloped in your arms

Nuzzle into your chest and breathe in your musk

Hold you tight, only to let go in the mornings

If only I could sleep at night.

I stare at the full haunting moon

Wishing you were here

Your memory hovers around my heart, with a dull ache.

I count teardrops as I lay awake.

I toss and turn, cry in despair

I caress our empty bed.

In vain I try to erase your touch from my body

The moon looks on me evocatively.

The eloquence of the winds

The maddening smell of the jasmine

The dearth of your love

Keeps me awake

Night after night

The moon fades, turning into hours of darkness

My mind, my heart, my soul on the verge of lunacy, wishing

If only I could sleep at night
