Press Release for Dr. Sankar Chatterjee’s Exhibition, 2014

20th – 26th May, 2014

Dr. Sankar Chatterjee, the name resonate a vision, a lifelong passion for paintings. His work carries the freshness of the purest form of landscapes and waterscapes. Almost all of his work reflect original locations and are inspired from actual natural beauties. Starting from Rural Bengal to British Moors, Himalayan Mountains to Australian Outback, each and every location has gotten equal depths of portrayal through the strokes of his brush. He mirrors our normal world into something mystical, romantic, into a work of enigma. His work truly reflects his character; his paintings are deep, soulful, simple, empathetic and silently strong. His paintings speak the language of silence; they make one stand still for a while and compel the viewer to feel the calmness, the depth, and the power of his water colours.

Sankar is a Doctor by profession, and apart from being a painter he has donned many roles and excelled in them too. He is a traveller, a rock climber, a national level table tennis player, an avid humanitarian, and a mouth organ player. But painting remains his main passion, the one closest to his heart.

Sankar started painting at the age of forty, and has been practising this art for the last twenty-five years. His chosen technique is British Transparent Water Colour, although he experiments with oil and acrylic from time to time.

He first participated in an open air exhibition in Isle of Wight, UK in 1996. Since then he has had 10 solo exhibitions at THE ACADEMY OF FINE ARTS, Participated in 76th Annual Exhibition of AIFACS, New Delhi for West Bengal State at Academy of Fine Arts, Kolkata (January 2004). His last exhibition was at Griffith, N.S.W, Australia in Nov’ 2013. This exhibition is his 11th Solo at THE ACADEMY OF FINE ARTS.

It is my utmost honour to present this artist, this man, this multitalented genius in front of you. While the world calls him a Doctor, a painter, a rock climber, a philanthropist and many more such names……. I call him ‘Baba’.

Rhiti Bose. May’14.
