My husband and I attended a special session organised by our daughter’s playschool, about a new class they were introducing for the benefit of the children.

The session moderator while starting the session asked us, the parents what did we wish for our child to become when they grow up. She went from parent to parent asking the same question, some said she wanted her child to be first in everything, another said super-intelligent, a gentleman sitting across us, wanted his son to be a great sportsperson, doctor, engineer, pilot came the expected replies.

I frantically kept searching my brain as I saw her coming towards us, what did I really want Raya, my daughter to become? She was onto us now, and before I could say anything my husband calmly said, “I want my daughter to grow up into a good human being.” The moderator stopped for while before her face broke into a big wide warm smile, and she said “absolutely”.

I was really impressed at my husband’s reply that IS the best thing we could ever want our children to be. All the parents looked back at him, some smiling some wondering if he was out of his mind……. but Thank you Suman for summing up so beautifully what I want our daughter to become. A kind, good hearted human being, and that’ll be enough for us.
